Watching Midway (the Movie) During the Corona Era

Posted by

These are not easy times. Very few of us (if any) have been through anything like this before. The news is frightening, and rarely uplifting. If you allow your mind to wander, the "what if scenarios" can take over and put you on edge. What's the solution?  There are many. Here are a few that I have been working on:

  1. Don't do "What if Scenarios" - there's no end to them, so don't even start with them.
  2. Turn OFF the TV - there's no real breaking news that you need to know right now. It can wait.
  3. Check News Websites Once a Day. While most people no longer subscribe to the original newspapers such as are sold on our site, they had one very distinct advantage: the paper came once a day, and that was the information that you needed to know. No more, no less.

In short, do whatever you can to think as little as possible about the coronavirus issue beyond that which is necessary to keep you and those around you safe.

I can suggest one more action that soothes the psyche a bit, particularly if you are locked down by government mandate or just voluntarily staying put: Watch Midway, the movie. Or Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan or Fury. Or any other World War II movie for that matter. And think about what the brave men and women of that era had to go through, and for how long. It helps to put things into perspective.

As one of the memes that arrived to my WhatsApp aptly put it:  Your parents (or grandparents) were called to fight a war in a distant land. You are being called to sit on a couch. You can do this!

We can do this.

Stay Strong. Stay Healthy. Keep Moving. Be Positive. Laugh. Help Others. Take Care of Yourself. And remember, "This too will pass."
