This Old Map of Los Angeles, originally drawn by E.S. Glover in 1877, depicts Los Angeles as viewed from the east and with the Santa Monica Mountains in the background.
Due to the completion of various railways, it became much easier to visit and settle in the Los Angeles valley at this time in history. The pleasant weather and fertile landscape made Los Angeles, and much of California, the "next big thing" for settlers looking to seek their fortune out west. The Old Map of Los Angeles shows what the valley may have looked like just before the completion of these railways. This means that the city had grown, but it was still not at the height of its popularity when this was drawn.
Glover included street names and reference points at the bottom of the Old Map of Los Angeles that make it easy for loyal Los Angeles fan to "navigate" their way through the city. The black and white Old Map of Los Angeles is sure to be a favorite historic piece in the home of any LA resident or native.
