LIFE Magazine was the periodical where new products were test out. This 1968 VW Sedan ad shows how the company was trying to break into a new market and compete directly with station wagons.  This is the original ad that appeared in an authentic LIFE Magazine from 1969. Upon order, this advertisement will be painstakingly extracted from the original edition in which it appears and carefully framed and packaged for delivery.  

The ubiquitous American station wagon of the 1960's had room for the whole family and all their stuff. VW tried to present their bus as a direct competitor but it was rather large and boxy. Ads for the VW Bus all but admitted it would be rather hard to convince everyone in the family that it was what they needed.
