On May 5th we commemorate the Battle of Puebla in 1862, in which the Mexican Army successfully defended itself against the French. In the 1950s, this day became a holiday used to educate Mexican Americans about their cultural heritage, and before long, it became an excuse for everyone to party! Today this day is known as Cinco de Mayo which is the Spanish for 5th of May, and it is celebrated with parades, parties, mariachi music, and traditional Mexican foods. It’s also a great opportunity to get to know our Mexican neighbors and friends, and to better understand their background and history.

America is a melting pot of so many different ethnicities, cultures and religions, and a day like Cinco de Mayo is an opportunity to celebrate our differences and contributions, that together make our country unique. We are like a big extended family, with all our idiosyncrasies, strengths and weaknesses, which can be both wonderful and challenging at the same time.

Let’s celebrate what makes our country special with the Family Birthday Board which serves as a beautiful reminder of the birthdays of our loved ones. Get $5 off until May 7th with coupon code SALSA.
