This Old Map of Canada - produced between 1840 and 1860- shows Canada as it once appeared just before Canada became a country. As we can see, the territories covered- the ten provinces and three territories- are not too different from what we see on a map of Canada today. However, the size of the country is slightly different than the Canada of today for one specific reason.
The Old Map of Canada says "British America" which signifies that Great Britain still claimed Canada as one of its colonies or territories at the time that the Old Map of Canada was printed. French Canada or the part of Canada that was at one point a French colony or territory (Quebec and the other provinces to the East) are conspicuously missing from this map. Toronto also appears to be slightly south of where it appears on a modern map.
Along with this map, this Old Map of Canada includes a scale to show the exact size of the country at this period. Framed in an elegant brown frame, this is the perfect gift for any friend or relative with a strong interest in the history of Canada.
Framed in a beautiful real wood frame that is approximately 1” wide and ½” thick, old state maps come in various sizes and are carefully packed for delivery.
As this item is a true facsimile of an actual old map there may be slight imperfections which only add to its authenticity.
